Vision? Nary!

The American Dream is, was, and likely always shall be, to kill the British.
The United States was founded on killing the British and destroying their tea; and sadly we have fallen far from these lofty ideals; the bedrock of Americanism.
I know what you're saying: "But... more Americans kill Americans than any other group."
Your view is short sided. You do not take a long enough view. Many Americans were British, come from British stock. Looking at it like this, killing another American is a patriotic act. A cleansing ritual. Perhaps a sublimated self-hate.

Besides, getting on a plane and going to Britain is expensive. And it takes a long time; so long, in fact, that it's hard to stay angry the whole flight. By the time you get there you're too worn out to kill anyone. Then you discover that the modern Brits are not the Brits of old, taxing you and demanding your obedience. Then you become more enraged at the original Brits you were angry with in the first place- and you get on the plane to confront them where they live: The United States.
But by the time you get there you are so tired. And you have to go back to work oppressing someone economically. So tiring. It just makes one angry.

The American Dream has surely passed away; and no amount of killing, try as you might, can resuscitate it.
